Rafe picks up on the rest of the ‘torture’ story this morning. I’ve been waiting to see *one* person involved in these arguments mention Gregg vs. Georgia, where the Supreme Court conceded that there was no conclusive evidence that capital punishment has deterrent value, and that some people should be executed for sheer retribution ... they “just deserve to die.”
Amnesty International has an informative PDF on the Furman and Gregg Supreme Court cases ... if anyone’s interested in dealing with reality [prior case law] anymore.
