Reuters:

Study: 82 Million Lacked Health Insurance in U.S.  This isn’t surprising: “New Mexico was second with 42.4 percent ...”.  Lovelace is, I believe, the only HMO left offering group plans.  Virtually every insurance company has gotten out of the health business here.  Precious few options left, and those that *are* left, have gotten very pricey for very little coverage.  Very little coverage.

I’ve come to believe that health insurance is probably the number one domestic problem in America right now. It seems like everyone I know lives in a health insurance prison of one kind or another. It’s getting harder and harder to find jobs that offer health insurance, and those that do are making employees pay a larger portion of the premium. If you want to work for yourself, it’s damn near impossible to get a policy that you can afford. Oh, and the coverage from every insurance plan I’ve had for the past few years has sucked, and they all seem to be getting worse.

New Mexico’s gotten particularly dismal.  I’ve been looking for alternatives, now that the one I use has gone sky-high and with minimal coverage ... but there are none.  Bar getting a low-paying state job, or emigrating to Canada or Britain.
