Environmentalists Speak Out on Auto Bailouts. I’ll say it again ... my ‘76 Honda Civic CVCC was peppy even at highway speeds, often got over 50mpg, and met all emissions standards for the time without a catalytic converter. Look at today ... for instance, the cars Ford is marketing overseas ... yet we get the horribly designed gas guzzling boats over here in America. I agree with Congressional Dems ... no bailout until we see what they’re going to do with auto design and efficiency going forward. I mean, come on. They’ve been building cars as if we have the Saudi Arabian oil fields sitting in our heartland.
